This tool developed by RAL’s Remote-Sensing Group (RSG) to visualise satellite observations of atmospheric composition takes as inputs:
-
Data produced by RSG’s pilot near-real time (NRT) processing systems for Eumetsat’s MetOp and Meteosat Second Generation satellites
-
Copernicus data (2020) on NO2 from Sentinel-5 Precursor gridded by RSG
The tool is based on Cesium software and the base map visualised in images is NASA’s Visible Earth - August, Blue Marble Next Generation with Topography and Bathymetry, courtesy Reto Stöckli, NASA Earth Observatory.
The near-real time processing chains take as their inputs:
-
Level-1B radiance data for GOME-2, IASI, MHS, AMSU-A and AVHRR/3 on MetOp and SEVIRI on MSG made available by Eumetsat through the Eumetcast system
-
Met forecast data from ECMWF
They run on the Jasmin compute infrastructure at RAL, managed by the Centre for Environmental Data Analysis with technical support by Scientific Computing Department
Development, implementation and technical support for the visualisation tool, pilot NRT processing chains and Eumetcast data reception have been funded through UKRI/NERC-NCEO, UKRI/STFC & UKSA.
